Indifference-Abandonment Damage
The doctrine that creature indifference, scorn, and forgetting constitute “cruel wounds” to Christ’s Heart — identified as the most unnatural betrayal in prophetic terms (Jeremiah 2:32: forgetting God more unnatural than a bride forgetting her ornaments; Isaiah 1:3: not knowing the master’s crib) and as the wound that leaves Christ’s Heart finding no comforter (Psalm 69:20: “I looked for comforters and found none”; Hosea 11:8-9: divine grief at indifference and its transformation into tender love; Revelation 3:15-16: lukewarmness as the specific form of rejection that operates through absence of fervor) — which the soul who suffers privation-desolation for Christ heals through a reparatory exchange: the soul’s grief at privation produces a “divine wound reflected in my Heart and of wounding It” that becomes “balm” for the wounds of indifference, the mechanism being the Pauline principle that one’s sufferings fill up what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions (Colossians 1:24), with Song of Songs 4:9 (the Bridegroom’s heart susceptible to wounding by the Bride) as the nuptial ground for this mutual-wound structure, so that a cold, dry, distracted soul who suffers for love of Christ becomes the answer to the wound that indifferent creatures inflict.
