14-1922-11-20 Biblical Resonance Analysis

Volume 14 — November 20, 1922 “Currents of Love between God and man.”

STAGE ONE — Independent Biblical Identification

The Passion of Love in Gethsemane — Currents Between Father and Son

“There were currents of love between Him and the Celestial Father, and in these currents all creatures were placed… since this was missing, He arrived at suffering such pains as to surpass all other pains, to the point of sweating living Blood… the pains of love are the most excruciating.”

Luke 22:44 — “Being in agony, he prayed more earnestly. His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down on the ground.” The sweating of blood is the direct Lukan anchor for the entry’s “sweating living Blood”; the agony names the register of love-pain that surpasses all other pains. Direct doctrinal parallel

John 17:21–26 — “that they may all be one; even as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, … that the love with which you loved me may be in them, and I in them.” The High Priestly Prayer names the currents of love between Father and Son in which all creatures are placed; Gethsemane is the experiential enactment of what John 17 prays — the anguish when the creatures whose inclusion is prayed for have severed themselves from the current. Christological/Trinitarian

Song of Songs 8:6–7 — “Set me as a seal on your heart, as a seal on your arm; for love is strong as death. Jealousy is as cruel as Sheol. Its flashes are flashes of fire, a very flame of the LORD. Many waters can’t quench love, neither can floods drown it. If a man would give all the wealth of his house for love, he would be utterly scorned.” The pains of love that surpass all others are precisely the strength of love: what cannot be quenched produces the most intense suffering when rejected. Affective/meditative

Hosea 11:8–9 — “How can I give you up, Ephraim? How can I hand you over, Israel? How can I make you like Admah? How can I make you like Zeboiim? My heart is turned within me, my compassion is aroused. I will not execute the fierceness of my anger. I will not return to destroy Ephraim, for I am God, and not man—the Holy One among you. I will not come in wrath.” The divine anguish at the rejected current; “betrayed love, denied love, rejected love, unknown love, trampled love” — the taxonomy of love’s non-reception finds its OT type in Hosea’s litany of divine grief over Israel. Affective/meditative

The Faculty-by-Faculty Currents of Love in Creation

“in the intelligence of man ran the current of love of my Wisdom; in his eyes ran the current of love of my Light; in his mouth, the current of love of my Word; in his hands, the current of love of the Sanctity of my works; in his will, the current of love of Mine… Man was made to be in continuous communications with His Creator.”

Genesis 28:12 (paraphrase) — Jacob’s dream of the ladder with angels ascending and descending; the continuous communication between heaven and earth that the currents establish. The ladder is the OT type of the permanent current-structure between Creator and creature. Typological

John 1:51 — “He said to him, “Most certainly, I tell you all, hereafter you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.” Jesus as the fulfillment of Jacob’s ladder; the currents between God and man run through the Son, who is the living embodiment of the open heaven. Christological/Trinitarian

Proverbs 8:22–31 (paraphrase) — Wisdom present at creation, beside the Creator, rejoicing in the inhabited world. The current of divine Wisdom running in human intelligence is the creaturely participation in the Wisdom that was present when God established the heavens and the earth; the intelligence-current is the experiential form of this Wisdom-presence in man. Typological

John 1:4–5 — “In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness hasn’t overcome it.” The Logos as the ground of the light-current running in human eyes; the Incarnation re-enters the world as the Light whose current sin had darkened. Christological/Trinitarian

John 1:14 — “The Word became flesh and lived among us. We saw his glory, such glory as of the only born Son of the Father, full of grace and truth.” The current of the divine Word running in the human mouth; the Incarnation is the full entrance of the Word-current into creaturely speech — the mouth-current at its most complete form. Christological/Trinitarian

John 15:4–5 — “Remain in me, and I in you. … apart from me you can do nothing.” The continuous communication that the currents constitute; “abide” is the relationship-form of the current remaining unbroken, and “apart from me you can do nothing” names what results when the current is severed. Direct doctrinal parallel

Colossians 3:10 — “and have put on the new man, who is being renewed in knowledge after the image of his Creator,” The intelligence-current restored; the renewal in knowledge corresponds to the wisdom-current’s reconnection after sin’s break. Direct doctrinal parallel

Sin Breaking the Currents — the Sun/Earth Metaphor

“With sin he broke all these currents, and remained separated from Me… if a creature could have the power to break, between the earth and the Sun, the current of light… the Sun would withdraw all the current of light into itself; the earth would remain in the dark, without fecundity and without life.”

Isaiah 59:2 — “But your iniquities have separated you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.” The most direct OT statement of sin as the rupture of the divine-human connection; the “separation” is precisely the broken current. Direct doctrinal parallel

Genesis 3:22–24 — “the Lord God sent him out from the garden of Eden… and placed the cherubim and a flaming sword to guard the way to the tree of life.” The historical form of the broken current: the expulsion from the garden is the Sun withdrawing its current — access to the tree-of-life light removed. Direct doctrinal parallel

Romans 1:21 (translation pending) — “although they knew God, they did not honor him as God… their foolish hearts were darkened.” The darkened foolish heart is the precise consequence of the intelligence-current broken: the wisdom-current severed leaves the mind dark. Direct doctrinal parallel

Psalm 80:3 — “Turn us again, God. Cause your face to shine, and we will be saved.” The restored face-shining is the reactivated Light-current; the repeated refrain names the creature’s fundamental need as the reconnection of what sin severed. Affective/meditative

The Redemptive Reunion of the Currents — and Man’s Ongoing Ingratitude

“I descended from Heaven to earth in order to reunite all these currents of love, but - oh, how much it cost Me! And man continues with his ingratitude, and returns to break the currents repaired by Me!”

John 1:9 — “The true light that enlightens everyone was coming into the world.” The Incarnation as the re-entry of the Light-current into the world’s darkness; the Word coming into the world is the current reactivated from the divine side. Christological/Trinitarian

2 Corinthians 5:18–19 — “But all things are of God, who reconciled us to himself through Jesus Christ, and gave to us the ministry of reconciliation; namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not reckoning to them their trespasses, and having committed to us the word of reconciliation.” The reconciliation is precisely the reunion of the broken currents; the ministry of reconciliation is the ongoing work of maintaining what Gethsemane’s cost repaired. Direct doctrinal parallel

Hebrews 10:19–20 — “Having therefore, brothers, boldness to enter into the holy place by the blood of Jesus, by the way which he dedicated for us, a new and living way, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh,” The new-and-living way as the restored current; the curtain torn is the last barrier between the broken currents removed, the path between heaven and earth reopened. Direct doctrinal parallel

Ephesians 2:13–14 — “But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off are made near in the blood of Christ. For he is our peace, who made both one, and broke down the middle wall of separation,” The dividing wall is the broken-current state; “brought near” and “made both one” name the current’s reunion. Direct doctrinal parallel

Luke 15:17–20 (paraphrase) — the prodigal “came to himself” and returned to the father’s embrace. The ongoing ingratitude that “returns to break the currents repaired” is the prodigal who, having returned, goes back out again. Typological

STAGE TWO — Comparison with Hogan’s Commentary

CORRESPONDENCES

Both identify Genesis 28 (Jacob’s ladder) as the OT type of the currents between heaven and earth. Both identify John 1:51 (Jesus as the fulfillment of Jacob’s ladder) as the NT fulfillment. Both recognize the sun/earth metaphor as structurally parallel to the divine-human current-relationship. Both recognize the Gethsemane connection to the passion-of-love.

DEVIATIONS

None substantive. Hogan’s commentary is pastoral and structural rather than citational; Stage One provides the full citation ecosystem.

ADDITIONS — HERS

  • The “Hours of the Passion” reference (internal): Hogan identifies Luisa’s earlier mystical work on the Passion (“the Hours of the Passion”) as describing three passions experienced by Jesus: the passion of love, the passion for sins, and the passion of the Jews. The November 20 entry focuses on the first — the passion of love — as categorically the most intense. This contextualizes the entry within the broader Luisian corpus on the Passion experience.

  • Man’s sickness as soul-sickness / broken-current diagnostic: Hogan extends the broken-current metaphor to contemporary societal analysis: “how it’s more and more and more sick — that sickness is soul sickness expressed in its body because it’s so unhappy. It has broken away from love and from life.” This is a contemporary application of the entry’s diagnostic rather than a new citation.

VIP / SPECIAL DESIGNATIONS

None designated. Hogan pauses after the passage and says “I’m going to stop there for a while” — indicating personal engagement with the content but not VIP language.

STAGE TWO SYNTHESIS

The dominant biblical imagination of this entry is Johannine-Wisdom: the Logos as the ground of the Light-current and Word-current, Wisdom as the ground of the intelligence-current, and the Gethsemane agony as the experiential location where all broken currents concentrate in the divine suffering. Hogan’s Jacob’s-ladder/John 1:51 identification is the most structurally significant contribution: it gives the faculty-by-faculty currents their OT typological ground (Jacob’s ladder) and Christological fulfillment (Jesus as the open heaven through whom the currents run). The entry’s pastoral and theological power lies in the anatomical precision: not love in general but specific named currents running in specific named faculties, all now broken and all now awaiting the DW era’s reunion.

Cross-Entry Synthesis

Volume 14 — November 20, 1922 “Currents of Love between God and man.”

The Passion of Love in Gethsemane

Luisa meditates on Gethsemane not as the Agony of external isolation — though the abandonment is present — but as the Agony of broken love-currents. The suffering is not from the creatures who have abandoned Jesus but from the Eternal Father: the currents of love between Father and Son in which all creatures are placed now carry the full weight of what those creatures owe and have withheld. John 17:21–26 names the theological ground: the High Priestly Prayer, prayed on the eve of Gethsemane, is the prayer for the current’s reunion — “that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.” Gethsemane is the anguish when the prayer encounters the reality of what it is asking to repair.

Luke 22:44 anchors the blood-sweat; the agony is so interior and so intense that it externalizes as living blood. The entry’s claim — “the pains of love are the most excruciating” — names what is unprecedented about the Gethsemane suffering: not physical torment but the taxonomized non-reception of love. “Betrayed love, denied love, rejected love, unknown love, trampled love” — the five forms correspond to five modes of the current’s rupture, each piercing the Heart in its own way. Song of Songs 8:6–7 and Hosea 11:8–9 provide the affective ground: the love “strong as death” that produces the most intense pain when rejected, and the divine heart recoiling at its own grief over the loved one who has withdrawn. These are not parallel passages but two angles on the same reality: the invincibility of divine love is precisely what makes its rejection so devastating.

The Faculty-by-Faculty Currents — The Architecture of the Creature

The entry’s theological center is the disclosure that God’s relationship with man in creation was not a generic divine-human bond but a specific, faculty-by-faculty current structure. Each creaturely faculty corresponds to a divine attribute: intelligence to Wisdom, eyes to Light, mouth to the Word, hands to the Sanctity of Works, will to the divine Will. This is not a devotional analogy but an ontological claim: the faculties were made as conduits through which the divine attributes would continuously flow.

Genesis 28:12 and John 1:51 together provide the structural type that Hogan identifies: Jacob’s ladder with its ascending and descending angels is the OT image of the permanent current between heaven and earth; Jesus names himself as the fulfillment of that ladder — the living current through whom heaven and earth communicate. The faculty-by-faculty structure is the Jacob’s-ladder principle applied anatomically: not one general current between Creator and creature but specific named channels corresponding to specific named divine attributes.

The Johannine citation ecosystem governs the light and word currents: John 1:4–5 (the Logos as the life that is the light of men), John 1:14 (the Word became flesh), and John 1:9 (the true light coming into the world) together present the Incarnation as the reactivation of the Light-current and Word-current simultaneously. The entry’s description of the mouth-current as “the current of love of my Word” is the most theologically dense of the five: John 1:14 is not merely a type for this current but its direct fulfillment — when the Word took flesh and spoke, the mouth-current was restored at its source.

Proverbs 8:22–31 grounds the intelligence-current: Wisdom present beside the Creator when the foundations were set. The running of Wisdom’s current in human intelligence is the creaturely participation in what Proverbs 8 names as Wisdom’s presence at creation’s very beginning. Colossians 3:10 names the restoration form: the image renewed in knowledge after the Creator.

Sin Breaking the Currents — and the Sun/Earth Metaphor

The sun/earth metaphor is among the most imagistically powerful in Volume 14. Isaiah 59:2 names the theological mechanism directly: “your iniquities have made a separation.” The metaphor fills out the experiential content: a creature who could break the current between sun and earth would produce darkness, barrenness, and death — precisely what Genesis 3 records in its expulsion narrative. The cherubim and flaming sword are the image of the Sun withdrawing its current into itself.

Romans 1:21’s “darkened foolish hearts” is the precise cognitive consequence of the intelligence-current severed: when the wisdom-channel is cut, the mind loses its orientation to reality and turns dark. Psalm 80:3 — “restore us… let your face shine, that we may be saved” — is the creature’s intuited response to its own darkness: the cry for the face-shining is the cry for the Light-current reactivated, even when the creature cannot name what it has lost.

The Redemptive Reunion — and the Ongoing Rupture

The Incarnation is named as the reunion of the broken currents: “I descended from Heaven to earth in order to reunite all these currents of love.” This gives the Redemption its current-reuniting character. John 1:9 (the true light coming into the world) and 2 Corinthians 5:18–19 (reconciliation of the world to God) name the operative dimensions; Hebrews 10:19–20 (the new and living way through his flesh, the curtain torn) names the structural consequence: the path between heaven and earth — the Jacob’s-ladder current — reopened through the body of the Son.

Ephesians 2:13–14 gives the most architecturally precise NT statement: “brought near by the blood of Christ… broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility.” The dividing wall is the broken-current state; “broken down in his flesh” is the reunion’s cost. Luke 15:17–20 supplies the typological frame for the ongoing rupture: the prodigal who returns and yet may go back out again. “Man continues with his ingratitude, and returns to break the currents repaired by Me” — the rupture is not a single historical event but a repeatable creaturely choice.

Synthesis

The dominant biblical imagination of this entry is Johannine-Wisdom with a Gethsemane-Passion center. The governing insight is anatomical precision applied to love: not a general divine-human relationship but specific faculty-by-faculty currents whose breaking is specific and whose reunion through the Incarnation is equally specific. Each broken current has its own form of divine pain; each reunited current has its own mode of creaturely life.

The three most load-bearing correspondences: Genesis 28 / John 1:51 for the Jacob’s-ladder current-architecture (Hogan’s most significant contribution); John 17:21–26 for the High Priestly Prayer as the theological ground of the Gethsemane-agony-as-current-rupture; and Isaiah 59:2 / Ephesians 2:13–14 for sin-as-separation and the Incarnation-as-reunion.

Within the project’s tracking framework, this entry advances LAN-1 with the most complete taxonomy of love’s rejection-forms in the corpus (“betrayed, denied, rejected, unknown, trampled”), provides a new SUW-1 register in the faculty-by-faculty structural account of the divine-human current, and deepens the IAD-1 interior-passion register through the Gethsemane passion-of-love disclosure.

14-1922-11-20

LAN-1 — love-rejection taxonomy / most-excruciating-pains form: “Betrayed love, denied love, rejected love, unknown love, trampled love” — the most complete taxonomy of the non-reception of divine love in the corpus. Prior LAN-1 forms have named individual rejection-forms (inverted-to-fire, September 1; violence-pressing-against-Justice, September 27; divine-loneliness, June 26). November 20 presents the five forms as a structured taxonomy, named collectively as constituting the most excruciating pains — categorically above all other suffering. Song of Songs 8:6–7 and Hosea 11:8–9 are the governing affective anchors.

SUW-1 — faculty-current / anatomical-structural form: “In the intelligence of man ran the current of love of my Wisdom; in his eyes ran the current of love of my Light; in his mouth, the current of love of my Word; in his hands, the current of love of the Sanctity of my works; in his will, the current of love of Mine.” New SUW-1 register: not the ontological (gold-gold fusion), sovereignty (mutual-lordship), circulatory (current-established), or omnipresent-co-presence forms, but the anatomical-structural form — every creaturely faculty constitutively connected to a corresponding divine attribute. Hogan identifies Genesis 28:12 / John 1:51 (Jacob’s ladder / Jesus as fulfillment) as the governing OT-NT structural anchor.

IAD-1 — Gethsemane-passion-of-love / most-excruciating / blood-sweat form: This entry extends the IAD-1 interior-passion register. August 19 disclosed the experiential content of the interior Passion (Humanity transformed into nails, thorns, continuous deaths). November 20 grounds that suffering more precisely in the passion-of-love: the currents of love carrying all that all creatures owed and did not give, concentrated in the Gethsemane agony surpassing all other pain. Luke 22:44 and John 17:21–26 are the governing anchors. The two entries (August 19 and November 20) together form the most complete IAD-1 Passion-sequence in Volume 14.
