Prevenient Grace Discernment
The doctrine that authentic mystical formation is discerned by two questions: (1) whether the soul acknowledges all graces as pure gift, not desert (Ephesians 2:8-9; 1 Corinthians 4:7: “what do you have that you did not receive?”); and (2) whether grace preceded the good will rather than the will preceding grace (Philippians 2:13; John 6:44; Romans 9:16; Ezekiel 36:26-27: God creates the good will); the soul who answers both correctly demonstrates marks of genuine divine formation, since self-attribution is the signature of delusion (1 Corinthians 15:10).
