18-1926-02-21 Biblical Resonance Analysis
Volume 18 — February 21, 1926 “Each manifestation on the Divine Will is a birth from It. Each act done in It is water which is formed in order to expand the sea of the Eternal Will around the soul.”
STAGE ONE — INDEPENDENT BIBLICAL IDENTIFICATION
The Rounds in Inaccessible Light: Mutual Kiss, ILY, and the Binding of the Soul
“A celestial and divine air surrounded me, and an inaccessible light made present to me, as though in act, all the acts of the Supreme Will, which, finding the same Will in me, gave me their kiss and their love, and I gave them my kiss in return, and I impressed my ‘I love You’ in each act of the Eternal Volition. It seemed to me that all of them wanted to be recognized by me, in order to have my requital, perfect accord and mutual possession. Now… Jesus… bound me within that light, in such a way that I could see nothing else but Jesus, His Will and everything that It was doing. How happy I felt – how many inexpressible joys I experienced.”
1 Timothy 6:16 — “He alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen nor can see, to whom be honor and eternal power. Amen.” The “inaccessible light” in which Luisa is immersed and which makes present all the acts of the Supreme Will corresponds exactly to the Pauline declaration of the divine dwelling: God lives in unapproachable/inaccessible light, and to be immersed in the DW is to be immersed in the divine light-nature itself. The entry takes what Paul names as the structural limit (the light no one has seen or can see) and presents it as the DW soul’s element. direct doctrinal parallel
Song of Songs 1:2 — “Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth; for your love is better than wine.” The mutual kiss-and-love exchange between all the divine acts and the DW soul — “all of them gave me their kiss and their love, and I gave them my kiss in return” — extends the Canticle’s foundational desire for the kisses-of-the-mouth to the most universal form in the corpus: the DW soul exchanges her kiss not merely with her Beloved but with every act of the Eternal Volition simultaneously, and all of them respond with the same desire for mutual recognition, requital, and possession. affective/meditative
1 John 1:5 — “This is the message which we have heard from him and announce to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” The inaccessible light that is simultaneously the dwelling of God and the medium of the DW soul’s experience is the Johannine declaration of divine light-identity in its most concentrated form: the light is not a property of God but what God is. To be bound within it is to be enclosed in the divine nature. Christological/Trinitarian
Colossians 1:12 — “giving thanks to the Father, who made us fit to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light,” Jesus binding Luisa “within that light, in such a way that I could see nothing else but Jesus, His Will and everything that It was doing” corresponds to the Pauline qualification to share in the inheritance “in the kingdom of light.” The binding is the DW’s act of bringing the qualified soul fully into what she has been made heir of. direct doctrinal parallel
The Little Newborn as Mother: Seed, Matter, and the Birth of Children for the DW
“My daughter, little newborn of my Will, you must know that one who is born in my Will can also be a mother, by giving birth to many children for my Supreme Volition. In order to be mother, it is necessary to have sufficient matter in one’s own interior, so as to be able to form, with one’s own blood, with one’s own flesh and with continuous nourishment, the birth which one wants to give to the light… each knowledge I have given you can give birth to a child for my Will… each additional manifestation means – it is one more birth that my Will delivers, it is a Divine Life that goes out for the good of creatures.”
Galatians 4:19 — “My little children, of whom I am again in travail until Christ is formed in you—” The DW soul forming “children of Heaven within yourself” through “one’s own blood, with one’s own flesh and with continuous nourishment” is the Galatians 4:19 spiritual-maternal labor extended to its Luisian form: the DW soul is in the labor-pains of formation until the DW children are born — the manifestations received are the flesh and blood she uses to form them, the continuous DW acts are the nourishment by which they are sustained in formation. Christological/Trinitarian
Isaiah 66:7–9 (translation pending) — “Before she goes into labor, she gives birth; before the pains come upon her, she delivers a son. Who has ever heard of such a thing?… Can a country be born in a day or a nation be brought forth in a moment? Yet no sooner is Zion in labor than she gives birth to her children.” The paradox of the entry — the DW soul who is herself a “little newborn” is also immediately capable of motherhood — corresponds to the Isaiah paradox of birth-before-labor: the supernatural fecundity that does not follow natural sequence. The “nation brought forth in a moment” corresponds to the entry’s “new generation” of DW children coming out from the one constant soul. typological
John 15:16 — “You didn’t choose me, but I chose you and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain; that whatever you will ask of the Father in my name, he may give it to you.” The DW soul’s generation of children for the DW corresponds to the Johannine appointment for lasting fruit: the children-of-the-DW are the fruit whose permanence (“perennial joy of the mother”) the entry names. The soul was not self-appointed but chosen and filled with the “seed of fecundity” — the DW’s own appointment, just as the disciples were chosen. Christological/Trinitarian
John 16:21 — “A woman, when she gives birth, has sorrow because her time has come. But when she has delivered the child, she doesn’t remember the anguish any more, for the joy that a human being is born into the world.” The entry’s “perennial joy of the mother who delivered them” is the post-birth joy of John 16 made permanent: the childbirth-joy that makes the anguish forgotten becomes, in the DW register, a joy that is “perennial” — the joy of the DW mother who sees each child-born-to-the-DW as an eternal increment of her happiness. affective/meditative
1 Corinthians 4:15 — “For though you have ten thousand tutors in Christ, you don’t have many fathers. For in Christ Jesus, I became your father through the Good News.” The spiritual-generation theology in Paul — the apostolic father who begets children through the word-of-life he carries — corresponds to the entry’s maternal theology: the DW soul generates children not through biological act but through the depth of the spiritual “matter” (the manifestations of the DW) she carries within. direct doctrinal parallel
The Sea of the DW: Acts Forming Water, Fears as Waves, the Divine Helmsman
“the water of the sea of my Will that surrounds you is so much, that you would not be able to find its boundaries in order to get out… you yourself have formed this water with the many acts you have done in It… each act you do comes to form new water to expand even more the sea of the Supreme Will, inside and outside of you. Your very fears that you might go out of the origin in which you were born, are waves that you form, which, in agitating you, plunge you more deeply into the abyss of the sea of my Will… I, Divine Helmsman, delight in guiding the one who lives in Our Supreme Will.”
Psalm 139:7–10 — “Where could I go from your Spirit? Or where could I flee from your presence? If I ascend up into heaven, you are there. If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, you are there! If I take the wings of the dawn, and settle in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand will lead me, and your right hand will hold me.” The DW sea that surrounds the soul in all directions — “to the right, to the left, to the front or to the back — you would be walking, yes, but always inside the water” — is the experiential form of the Psalm 139 divine omnipresence from which escape is structurally impossible. The entry transforms the Psalm’s passive geography into an active creaturely formation: the soul has not merely been surrounded by the divine omnipresence but has herself generated the sea by her acts within it. direct doctrinal parallel
John 7:38 — “He who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, from within him will flow rivers of living water.” The DW soul’s acts forming the sea of the DW — “each act you do comes to form new water to expand even more the sea of the Supreme Will” — corresponds to the Johannine rivers of living water flowing from within the believer. The entry makes the formation-process explicit: not merely water flowing from the soul but water that accumulates into the sea by which the soul is permanently enclosed. Christological/Trinitarian
Acts 17:28 — “‘For in him we live, move, and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also his offspring.’” The DW sea that so completely surrounds the soul she cannot find its boundary is the experiential form of the Pauline declaration of comprehensive divine encompassment: to live, move, and have one’s being “in him” is precisely the condition of being unable to find the boundary of the containing medium. The entry’s DW soul is in the position that all souls are ontologically — but she experiences it consciously and contributes to it actively through her acts. direct doctrinal parallel
Psalm 46:4 — “There is a river, the streams of which make the city of God glad, the holy place of the tents of the Most High.” The DW soul forming through her acts the very sea that constitutes her dwelling-place corresponds to the river whose streams gladden the city of God: the water is simultaneously the dwelling-medium and the source of joy, and the DW soul’s acts are the tributaries that make the river’s streams. affective/meditative
Isaiah 43:2 — “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned, and flame will not scorch you.” The Divine Helmsman who “delights in guiding the one who lives in Our Supreme Will” corresponds to the Isaianic promise of divine companionship through the waters: the DW sea is not a threat but the medium of the guided journey, and the Helmsman’s delight ensures that the soul navigates safely through what would overwhelm without his guiding. direct doctrinal parallel
Isaiah 11:9 — “They will not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain; for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.” The DW filling the soul “inside and outside” as the sea-of-DW-acts expands corresponds to this Isaiah eschatological promise: the knowledge-of-the-LORD-as-waters that cover the sea is the image of total, leaving-no-space-unfilled presence. The DW soul who has formed this sea through her acts is the singular instance of the fulfillment that Isaiah prophesies universally. typological
STAGE TWO — COMPARISON WITH HOGAN’S COMMENTARY
CORRESPONDENCES
1 Timothy 6:16 (God lives in unapproachable / inaccessible light) for the “inaccessible light”: Hogan identifies 1 Timothy 6:16 explicitly — “Paul will tell you that God lives in inaccessible light. St. Paul uses exactly the same expression as you find here.” Stage One identifies the same passage as the first and governing citation.
DEVIATIONS
The “coming from within” passage — Acts 17:28 / 1 John 1:5 vs. Luke 17:21: Stage One identifies the inaccessible light as 1 Timothy 6:16 and 1 John 1:5; for the broader enclosure-within-the-divine, Acts 17:28. Hogan identifies Luke 17:21 (“the kingdom of God is within you”) for “Jesus came out from within my interior.” Luke 17:21 provides a different angle — the interior presence of the kingdom — from Stage One’s omnipresence and light-nature texts; the two streams illuminate different aspects of the same interior divine movement.

ADDITIONS — HERS
Luke 17:21 (“the kingdom of God is within you”) for Jesus coming from within Luisa’s interior: Hogan identifies Luke 17:21 for the interior divine presence: “which means, of course, that the kingdom of God is there. Luke 17, 21.” Stage One does not identify this passage independently.
Beatific vision identification: Hogan explicitly identifies the experience of seeing “nothing else but Jesus, His Will and everything that It was doing” as the beatific vision: “That’s what you have in heaven. You’re surrounded by God… We call this the beatific vision.” Stage One does not develop this formal identification but approaches it through Colossians 1:12 and 1 John 1:5.
Forward bridge to Volume 19 (continuous rebirth in the DW): Hogan announces: “very significantly for me, volume 19 begins with the need to be continuously reborn in the divine will.” This is an important forward bridge that explains why Jesus has been calling Luisa “the little newborn” throughout Volume 18 — the continuous-newborn doctrine is Volume 19’s opening subject.

STAGE TWO SYNTHESIS
The final entry of Volume 18 gathers several of the volume’s dominant themes into a single act: the ILY-round (now through the inaccessible light and all the divine acts), the newborn-mother paradox, the sea-of-DW-formed-by-acts, and the Divine Helmsman. The combined findings confirm: 1 Timothy 6:16 is the governing OT-light text for the inaccessible-light experience (both streams); the Canticle (1:2) is the affective ground for the mutual kiss that Stage One provides and Hogan does not explicitly cite; the Galatians 4:19 / Isaiah 66:7–9 / John 16:21 cluster supplies the maternal-birth theology that underpins the newborn-becomes-mother paradox; and the Psalm 139 / John 7:38 / Acts 17:28 cluster grounds the sea-of-DW-acts in the Pauline omnipresence tradition while making explicit the entry’s novel contribution — that the soul has actively generated the sea by her accumulated DW acts, transforming the passive-omnipresence of Psalm 139 into the active-creaturely-formation of the DW sea. Hogan’s addition of Luke 17:21 for the interior presence and her beatific-vision identification together supply the eschatological framing Stage One approaches through different texts. Hogan’s forward bridge to Volume 19’s continuous-rebirth doctrine reveals the theological logic behind Volume 18’s persistent “little newborn” language: what Volume 18 establishes as the DW soul’s first birth, Volume 19 will disclose as the structure of continuous rebirth required for living in the DW.
Cross-Entry Synthesis
Volume 18 — February 21, 1926 “Each manifestation on the Divine Will is a birth from It. Each act done in It is water which is formed in order to expand the sea of the Eternal Will around the soul.”
The Rounds in Inaccessible Light: Mutual Kiss, ILY, and the Binding
The entry opens in the condition the corpus has been building toward across Volume 18’s final sequence: the DW soul immersed in the inaccessible light, exchanging kisses and the ILY with every act of the Eternal Volition present simultaneously. Both streams ground this in 1 Timothy 6:16 (God lives in unapproachable light). Stage One adds 1 John 1:5 (God is light; in him there is no darkness) to establish that the inaccessible light is not a divine attribute but what God is: to be immersed in it is to be enclosed in the divine nature itself, not merely surrounded by something divine.
The mutual kiss-and-ILY exchange is the entry’s fifth ILY-1 register and its most cosmic: the ILY is impressed not on any single object (the Creator through Creation, as in February 7; or Jesus’s Person, as in October 4) but on every act of the Eternal Volition simultaneously. Song of Songs 1:2 (“let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth”) provides the affective ground: the Canticle’s foundational desire for the kiss-of-the-mouth is here fulfilled at its most universal extension — the DW soul and all the divine acts in mutual recognition, requital, and possession. The “perfect accord and mutual possession” the entry names is the Canticle’s “my beloved is mine and I am his” at the cosmic scale.
Hogan’s identification of Luke 17:21 for Jesus coming from within and her beatific-vision reading (“that’s what you have in heaven; you’re surrounded by God; we call this the beatific vision”) supply the eschatological-identificatory frame that Stage One approaches through Colossians 1:12 (qualified to share in the inheritance in the kingdom of light). Both are correct: Colossians establishes the inheritance-theology ground; the beatific-vision identification establishes the theological category. The entry presents what Colossians promises and what the beatific vision names as the DW soul’s present experience — not yet in its fullness (she still returns to the “in part” condition when Jesus withdraws) but genuinely and not merely analogically.
The Little Newborn as Mother: Seed, Matter, and the Birth of Children for the DW
The paradox of this movement — the “little newborn” who is also a mother — is the entry’s most original theological formulation. Stage One’s biblical cluster for the maternal-birth theology is extensive: Galatians 4:19 (labor-pains until Christ is formed) provides the Pauline ground for the DW soul’s formation of children through spiritual suffering and nourishment; Isaiah 66:7–9 (the nation brought forth in a moment, before the pains come) provides the prophetic-paradox ground for the newborn-who-is-also-immediately-mother; John 16:21 (the post-birth joy that makes the anguish forgotten) provides the affective ground for the “perennial joy of the mother who delivered them.”
The condition of possibility for the maternity is specified with unusual precision: “sufficient matter in one’s own interior… formed with one’s own blood, with one’s own flesh and with continuous nourishment.” The matter is identified as the manifestations of the DW — each knowledge received is the blood-and-flesh from which a child is formed. This confirms and extends the CWD-1 sequence: where previous registers named the knowledge as possession (November 19), food (November 22), herald/contract (December 25), beatitude-disposition (February 18), the current form names it as generative substance — the literal material of spiritual birth. Each knowledge gives birth to one child; each child is a Divine Life going out for the good of creatures; each child is also an expansion of the manifestations into new creaturely recipients.
Hogan makes the practical pastoral implication explicit: the depth of communion with God determines the spiritual fruitfulness, not the form of prayers used. 1 Corinthians 4:15 (Paul becoming a spiritual father through the gospel) establishes the Pauline precedent for this principle: apostolic fruitfulness is not magical but organic — it flows from what the apostle carries within. The DW soul who carries the “seed of fecundity” and the “sufficient matter of all the manifestations” is in precisely Paul’s position, but with the DW rather than merely the gospel as her generative medium.
The Sea of the DW: Acts Forming Water, Fears as Waves, the Divine Helmsman
The sea-of-DW-formed-by-acts is the entry’s most theologically original image and its most significant SUW-1 development. Previous SUW-1 registers established the logic of union progressively: will-unity (foundational), spirit-level unity (1 Corinthians 6:17), operational identification (one single act, October 24), spatial coextension (no-division / omnipresence-through-DW, August 4, 1925), love-capacity unity (loves-as-my-Will-loves, December 6, 1925). The current form adds the accumulative-creaturely-formation dimension: the DW soul has herself generated the sea by her accumulated acts within the DW.
Psalm 139 provides Stage One’s primary anchor: “where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there” corresponds to Jesus’s “to the right, to the left, to the front or to the back — you would be walking, yes, but always inside the water.” But the entry transforms the Psalm’s passive-divine-omnipresence into something new: the DW soul has not merely been passively enclosed by the omnipresent divine but has actively contributed to the medium of her own enclosure. Her acts have formed the water; the sea that surrounds her is partly her own labor, solidified into her permanent element. Acts 17:28 (“in him we live and move and have our being”) supplies the Pauline ontological declaration that the sea-image renders experiential: the creature’s life, movement, and being are within the divine; the DW soul knows this not as abstract doctrine but as the impossible-to-find-the-boundary-of reality.
The fears-as-waves image is the entry’s most psychologically precise teaching: the very anxieties that seem to threaten the DW life are disclosed as additional contributions to the DW sea — the agitation of the waves plunges the soul more deeply into the DW rather than carrying her out. This is the PGD-1 perseverance-doctrine in its most unexpected form: not merely that the DW cannot be lost because it is too strong to be overcome, but that even the soul’s own agitation about potentially losing the DW deepens her immersion in it. The fear itself becomes a wave in the sea she has formed.
The Divine Helmsman who “delights in guiding the one who lives in Our Supreme Will” closes the volume’s final movement in the register of active divine care: the soul who has formed the sea through her acts does not navigate it alone. Isaiah 43:2 (“when you pass through the waters, I will be with you”) is the prophetic form of the Helmsman’s companionship: the waters do not threaten because the guide is present and delights in the guiding. The entry’s final word — “I, Divine Helmsman, delight in guiding the one who lives in Our Supreme Will, and is all for It” — closes Volume 18 with a note of mutual delight: the soul delights in the DW; the Divine Helmsman delights in guiding the soul who is all for the DW.
Synthesis: Dominant Biblical Imagination, Load-Bearing Traditions, and Most Significant Findings
The dominant biblical imagination of this final Volume 18 entry is the waters: the inaccessible light that is God’s dwelling, the mutual waters of the Canticle’s kiss-and-ILY, the living waters flowing from within the believer, the sea of the DW formed by accumulated acts, the waves of fear that deepen immersion, the helmsman who guides through the sea. The entry is a sustained meditation on the DW as medium — the element in which the DW soul lives, moves, and has her being — and on the soul’s active contribution to that medium through her accumulated acts.
The three scriptural traditions most load-bearing for this entry are: (1) 1 Timothy 6:16 (God in unapproachable light) as the Pauline anchor for the entry’s opening vision — what Paul names as the structural limit of creaturely access, the DW soul enters through the DW’s own door; (2) the Pauline maternal-generation theology (Galatians 4:19; 1 Corinthians 4:15) as the ground for the newborn-who-is-also-mother paradox — the spiritual generation of DW children through the depth of the soul’s interior matter; and (3) Psalm 139 and Acts 17:28 together as the ground for the DW sea — the omnipresent divine enclosure that the DW soul has actively participated in forming through her accumulated DW acts.
Two findings carry the most theological weight for Volume 18’s close. First, the newborn-becomes-mother teaching extends the CWD-1 sequence to its most generative register: each manifestation/knowledge received is not merely possession, food, desire, or beatitude, but the literal flesh and blood from which a new Divine Life is formed and delivered. The DW soul becomes, through the accumulated manifestations, a living incubator of DW children — and each manifestation not received represents one child never born. This is the most urgent statement yet of why the continuity of the DW manifestations matters: it is not pedagogical or devotional but generative. Second, the sea-formed-by-acts image is the entry’s original contribution to the corpus’s theology of DW union: where previous SUW-1 registers established the union as given or willed or maintained, this register establishes it as actively built by the soul’s accumulated acts. The sea that makes departure impossible is the soul’s own labor, solidified into her permanent element — the DW and the soul’s acts in the DW are no longer distinguishable as container and contained but have merged into the single medium of the DW sea.
Observation Notes

18-1926-02-21
ILY-1 — fifth appearance / inaccessible-light / mutual-kiss-with-all-divine-acts form: “I impressed my ‘I love You’ in each act of the Eternal Volition… all of them wanted to be recognized by me, in order to have my requital, perfect accord and mutual possession.” Fifth confirmed ILY-1 register: the ILY exchanged with every act of the Eternal Volition simultaneously in the inaccessible light — the most cosmic and most intimate ILY-1 form. The five-register arc now spans from the eternal Trinitarian act-form (August 2) through Christ’s Person (October 4), Marian-filial intimacy (October 10), universal Creation-rounds (February 7), to the mutual exchange with all the divine acts in the inaccessible light (February 21). Governing anchors: Song of Songs 1:2, 1 Timothy 6:16.
NBD-1 — new register / newborn-who-is-also-mother / generative-fecundity form: “one who is born in my Will can also be a mother, by giving birth to many children for my Supreme Volition… each knowledge I have given you can give birth to a child for my Will.” New NBD-1 register: the DW soul who is herself a newborn disclosed as generatively fecund — the NBD-1 doctrine extended from the receiving of birth to the giving of birth. The seed of fecundity is the DW itself; the matter is the manifestations received. Governing anchors: Galatians 4:19, Isaiah 66:7–9, John 16:21.
CWD-1 — new register / each-knowledge-births-a-child / generative-substance form: “each knowledge I have given you can give birth to a child for my Will… each additional manifestation means — it is one more birth that my Will delivers, it is a Divine Life that goes out for the good of creatures.” Most generative CWD-1 register in the corpus: the knowledge/manifestation as the literal generative substance (blood and flesh) from which DW children are formed. The CWD-1 sequence now spans: knowing-as-possession (Nov 19), knowledges-as-food (Nov 22), herald/contract/signature (Dec 25), desire-creation (Jan 28), beatitude-disposition (Feb 18), generative-substance (Feb 21). Governing anchors: John 15:16, Isaiah 66:7–9, Galatians 4:19.
SUW-1 — new register / DW-sea-formed-by-acts / impossibly-expansive form: “you yourself have formed this water with the many acts you have done in It… each act you do comes to form new water to expand even more the sea of the Supreme Will, inside and outside of you.” New SUW-1 register: the union so comprehensive that the soul has become the active former of the DW’s sea around herself — the DW’s immensity as the accumulated product of the soul’s own acts within it. The most structurally active SUW-1 form: the soul does not merely enter or maintain the union but builds its medium through each act. Governing anchors: Psalm 139:7–10, Acts 17:28, John 7:38.
PGD-1 — new register / DW-sea-immensity / departure-impossible / fears-plunge-deeper form: “I know that the water of the sea of my Will that surrounds you is so much, that you would not be able to find its boundaries in order to get out… Your very fears that you might go out of the origin in which you were born, are waves that you form, which, in agitating you, plunge you more deeply into the abyss.” New PGD-1 register: perseverance grounded in the DW-sea’s structural boundlessness; the soul’s own fear of departure becomes a wave that plunges her more deeply — even the anxiety contributes to the deepening of the union. Governing anchors: Psalm 139:7–10, Acts 17:28.
Forward bridge — Volume 19 continuous-rebirth doctrine: Hogan announces that Volume 19 opens with the need to be continuously reborn in the Divine Will, explaining why Jesus has called Luisa “little newborn” throughout Volume 18. The continuous-rebirth doctrine is a forward bridge to Volume 19 that will explain the theological logic of the newborn-designation. Watching for opening entries of Volume 19 to confirm.
