Wheel of Eternity Doctrine
The doctrine that there exists in the divine economy a cosmic responsive consciousness — the “wheel of eternity” — constituting the eternal court’s capacity for perpetual awe and ecstasy before the supreme divine mysteries, first appearing in the diary text at the disclosure of the Incarnation: “My conception was such and so great that the wheel of eternity remained stunned and ecstatic in seeing the innumerable excesses of my love, and all prodigies united together. The whole mass of the Universe was shaken in seeing the One who gives life to everything shrink, reduce Himself, enclose everything, in order to do — what? To take the lives of all, and make all be reborn” — the wheel stunned and ecstatic before the supreme paradox of the infinite God self-reducing to a hazelnut-sized humanity, enclosing within himself all creatures past present and future, for their universal rebirth; the scriptural ground being Ezekiel’s chariot-throne wheels (Ezekiel 1:15-21: the great wheels within wheels that contain the spirit of the living creatures, attendant upon the divine throne-chariot in which the divine majesty moves — the wheel of eternity as the celestial-court correlate of these throne-wheels in perpetual responsive motion) and Revelation’s living creatures (Revelation 4:6-8: the four living creatures full of eyes, around the throne, who day and night never cease saying “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty” — the never-ceasing trisagion as the eternal court’s ecstatic response to divine mysteries that remain inexhaustible precisely because the One they name is the ever-new act).
