Will-Discernment Criterion
The VIP doctrine that the sure sign to know whether a state is the Will of God is that the soul is ready to do otherwise if she knew God’s will was no longer that state — holding her current condition with open hands, as Christ held the Passion in Gethsemane (Luke 22:42: “not my will, but yours”), under the “if the Lord wills” dispositional frame of James 4:13-15, ready to be taken where she does not choose (John 21:18-19), having learned Pauline contentment in all circumstances (Philippians 4:11-12); attachment to the state rather than to the Will is the diagnostic failure.
