Sorrow-in-Divine-Way Doctrine
The doctrine establishing a formal distinction between divine-way suffering and human-way suffering: divine-way suffering — “like little drops of water in the immense sea, the power of whose waves has the virtue of changing them into happiness” — does not separate from happiness or imperturbable peace; human-way suffering breaks true happiness and disturbs peace; the soul’s interior sea, animated by the DW, is the metaphysical mechanism converting sorrow into happiness and making this distinction absolute rather than merely psychological.
