Virtue Root in Christ
The doctrine that true virtues must have their roots in Christ’s Heart and be developed in the creature’s heart; virtues rooted elsewhere are sympathy-virtues — mutable, circumstantial, and appearing as light while being darkness (Matthew 7:21-23) — while Christ-rooted virtues are stable and the same for all in all circumstances; four counterfeit virtue forms (charity that becomes icy, selective obedience, volatile patience, prayer abandoned after a cold encounter) are exposed by the stability-criterion (John 15:4-5; Ephesians 3:17; Colossians 2:6-7; Jeremiah 17:7-8; Philippians 2:8; Isaiah 53:7).
