Interior Suffering Theology
The VIP doctrine that Christ underwent two structurally distinct Passions: (1) the Interior Passion, inflicted by the Divinity upon the Humanity from highest love and accord among all Three Divine Persons (Isaiah 53:10: it pleased the LORD to bruise him; John 10:17-18: the Father loves him because he lays down his life in the Father’s accord; Hebrews 10:5-7: the body prepared for this; Hebrews 5:8: obedience learned through continuous suffering), surpassing the creaturely Passion in power, intensity, multiplicity, and duration because Love could wound infinitely — and (2) the Exterior/Creaturely Passion, which supplied what the Divinity was structurally incapable of inflicting: injustice, hatred, and disfigurement (1 John 4:8: God is love and cannot inflict what love excludes; 2 Corinthians 5:21: made to be sin on our behalf; Isaiah 52:14: marred beyond human semblance; Psalm 22:6: not a man; Hebrews 9:22: no remission without blood-shedding; Galatians 3:13: becoming a curse), with the Redemption requiring both — the Interior Passion bearing the infinite weight of sin from divine love, the Exterior Passion enacting the historical blood-shedding and unjust suffering that justice required; the soul operating in the Divine Will conformed to the Interior Passion’s paradox-structure (united yet detached, loved yet forgotten, honored yet denied, holy yet covered with sins).
