Simplicity as Virtue-Gateway
The doctrine that simplicity is the virtue most resembling the Divine Being — since God is most simple Spirit (1 John 1:5: “God is light, and in him is no darkness”) — and therefore the sole gateway through which participation in all other divine qualities becomes possible; the simple soul needs no keys or doors to enter God because by resemblance she finds herself already within him (John 14:20; Acts 17:28; 1 Corinthians 6:17), the simple eye (Matthew 6:22: haplous) fills the whole body with light, and no veil of duplicity prevents the light-to-light transformation through which divine grace enters and operates without impediment (2 Corinthians 3:18; 2 Peter 1:4).
