Privation Fire Doctrine
The doctrine that the privation of God’s sensible presence is categorically distinct from all other tribulations (penances, expiations, compensations): it is a fire that “ignites, consumes, annihilates, and does not give up until it sees the human life destroyed” (our God is a consuming fire — Hebrews 12:29; Spirit-and-fire baptism — Matthew 3:11; Malachi 3:2-3) but simultaneously vivifies, constituting Divine Life in place of the destroyed human life (Galatians 2:20; 2 Corinthians 4:10-11; John 3:30; John 12:24).
