Love Pain as Hell-Surpassing
The doctrine that the pain of love (the agony of the beloved’s absence felt by one who loves) is more terrible than hell: “What can tyrannize a soul more than hell? A loved love” — because hell tyrannizes through opposition and hatred, while love tyrannizes through its own inseparable bond, making the loved love the most tormenting force a soul can experience.
