06-1906-01-14 Biblical Resonance Analysis
Volume 6 — January 14, 1906 “Jesus forms His Image in the light that comes out of the soul.”
STAGE ONE — Independent Biblical Identification
Composite Light: Thought, Word, Desire, Works, Steps Uniting into a Sun
“I want that her thought be light — light the word, light the desire, light the works, light the steps; and that these lights, united together, form a sun.”
John 8:12 — “Again, therefore, Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.” The soul’s becoming “all light” is the consequence of following the one who is Light — she receives and transmits what she follows. The five-dimensional light (thought, word, desire, works, steps) is the full articulation of what “having the light of life” means when it penetrates every register of the soul’s activity. Direct doctrinal parallel
Ephesians 5:8 — “For you were once darkness, but are now light in the Lord. Walk as children of light,” Not merely that you have light but that you are light — the entry’s “she becomes all light” is the direct equivalent of this identity-claim; walking in every dimension as light is the practical content of being light in the Lord. Direct doctrinal parallel
Matthew 5:14–16 — “You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill can’t be hidden. Neither do you light a lamp and put it under a measuring basket, but on a stand; and it shines to all who are in the house. Even so, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” The soul named as the light of the world — the entry specifies the anatomy of this light (thought, word, desire, works, steps) and names the sun they form as the medium of divine glory. Direct doctrinal parallel
1 John 1:7 — “But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin.” Walking in the light as he is in the light — the standard is not partial or intermittent illumination but the same quality of light that characterizes the divine nature itself, which is what the five-dimensional composite achieves. Direct doctrinal parallel
1 Thessalonians 5:5 — “You are all children of light and children of the day. We don’t belong to the night, nor to darkness,” The identity-claim as the ground from which the composite light emerges: the soul is constitutionally a child of light, and the entry’s enumeration of the five dimensions is the full actualization of what that identity entails. Direct doctrinal parallel
Colossians 1:12 — “giving thanks to the Father, who made us fit to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light,” The inheritance of light as the condition the soul is qualified for — the composite-sun state is the inheritance named. Direct doctrinal parallel
1 Peter 2:9 — “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, that you may proclaim the excellence of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” Called from darkness into marvelous light — the calling is total, not partial, which is why every dimension (thought, word, desire, works, steps) must be light; partial illumination does not fulfill the calling. Direct doctrinal parallel
Psalm 104:2 — “He covers himself with light as with a garment. He stretches out the heavens like a curtain.” God wrapped in light as his garment — the soul who becomes all light and forms a sun takes on a quality that is specifically divine; the sun is the creaturely form of the Creator’s own light-garment. Direct doctrinal parallel
Proverbs 4:18 — “But the path of the righteous is like the dawning light that shines more and more until the perfect day.” The progressive brightening from dawn to full day — individual lights (thought, word, desire, works, steps) growing together through the process the entry names until the full sun. Direct doctrinal parallel
2 Corinthians 4:6 — “seeing it is God who said, “Light will shine out of darkness,” who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” The light shining in the heart — the five-dimensional composite is the full expression of what this heart-illumination means when it has penetrated every register of the soul’s activity. Direct doctrinal parallel
Song of Songs 6:10 — “Who is she who looks out as the morning, beautiful as the moon, clear as the sun, and awesome as an army with banners?” The beloved described as “bright as the sun” — the soul who has become all light and formed a composite sun is this spousal beauty, which overwhelms the divine gaze not as obstacle but as perfect medium. Affective/meditative
The Sun as Medium for Christ’s Image-Formation
“And this happens when she does everything – everything for Me; then does she become all light. In this sun my whole Image may be formed.”
Romans 8:29 — “For whom he foreknew, he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.” The conformity-to-image as the purpose of divine foreknowledge — the sun-formation is the medium in which this predestined conformity is actualized; the entry discloses why some are conformed and others are not: the Image forms in the light, not in the darkness. Direct doctrinal parallel
2 Corinthians 3:18 — “But we all, with unveiled face seeing the glory of the Lord as in a mirror, are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, even as from the Lord, the Spirit.” Transformed into the same Image “from one degree of glory to another” — precisely the composite-light process: individual glimmers (incompletely formed) growing toward the full sun (fully formed Image). The “from one degree to another” names the same progression Proverbs 4:18’s dawn-to-full-day describes. Direct doctrinal parallel
Wisdom 7:26 — “For she is a reflection of everlasting light, an unspotted mirror of the working of God, and an image of his goodness.” The spotless mirror that reflects God without distortion — the fully composed sun is the spotless mirror in which God’s Image forms without obstacle. The mirror requires no foreign substance in it to cloud the reflection; the fully-light soul has no darkness to obstruct. Direct doctrinal parallel
Genesis 1:26–27 — “Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness’… So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him.” The image-of-God as the soul’s original constitution — the composite-light sun is the full realization of what the imago Dei means when it has been fully actualized through total illumination. Direct doctrinal parallel
Colossians 3:10 — “and have put on the new man, who is being renewed in knowledge after the image of his Creator,” The renewal-into-Image as the ongoing process — the new self being renewed “after the image of its creator” is what the five individual lights are uniting to produce. Direct doctrinal parallel
Ephesians 4:22–24 — “that you put away, as concerning your former way of life, the old man that grows corrupt after the lusts of deceit, and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new man, who in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of truth.” The new self created in the likeness of God — each of the five dimensions (thought, word, desire, works, steps) corresponds to a dimension of the old self that is put off and the new self that is put on; total illumination is the completion of this putting-on. Direct doctrinal parallel
The Obstacle-Free Entrance: Sun as Resistance-Free Medium
“Just as one who wants to enter into the solar light finds no obstacle to entering it, so do I find no obstacle in this sun which the creature has made of her whole being. On the other hand, with one who is not all light, I find many hindrances to forming my Image.”
John 14:23 — “Jesus answered him, “If a man loves me, he will keep my word. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.” The divine making-home is obstacle-free because the soul who loves and keeps the word has cleared every obstacle — what is all-light provides no resistance to the divine indwelling; there is nothing in the sun to block the entrance. Direct doctrinal parallel
Revelation 21:23 — “The city has no need for the sun or moon to shine, for the very glory of God illuminated it and its lamp is the Lamb.” The eschatological city that is entirely transparent to divine light — the soul who has become all light is the creaturely form of the New Jerusalem’s total transparency; God’s Image forms in both without obstacle. Typological
Isaiah 60:19–20 — “The sun will be no more your light by day, … but the LORD will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory.” The replacement of the natural sun by divine light — the soul who becomes a sun for God’s Image-formation enters the eschatological light-economy in which no darkness remains. Typological
Psalm 139:11–12 — “If I say, “Surely the darkness will overwhelm me. The light around me will be night,” even the darkness doesn’t hide from you, but the night shines as the day. The darkness is like light to you.” God for whom there is no darkness — the obstacle is not on God’s side but on the soul’s: the Image cannot form in partial darkness not because God cannot see but because the medium is inadequate to bear the full Image. Affective/meditative
STAGE TWO — Comparison with Hogan’s Commentary
CORRESPONDENCES
Romans 8:29 — Both identify this as the anchor for Christ’s Image-formation: Hogan cites it directly; Stage One develops it as the primary Image-conformity ground.
Psalm 104:2 — Both identify the God-wrapped-in-light-as-garment as the ground for the soul’s becoming all light.
1 Peter 2:9, 1 John 1:7, Colossians 1:12, 1 Thessalonians 5:5, Ephesians 5:8 — All five of Hogan’s “walk in the light” citations are identified by Stage One. Strong correspondence cluster across the light-walk tradition.
DEVIATIONS
None. Hogan’s seven citations all land in the entry’s primary territory; Stage One develops the same texts with fuller rationale and adds additional passages Hogan does not address.

ADDITIONS — HERS
Hogan provides no Scripture beyond her seven cited texts. She contributes the diagnostic observation: “we have left behind the darkness of sin, the darkness of selfishness, the darkness of worldliness, the darkness of human miseries and we have allowed the Lord to bring us and transform us completely into light.” This names the specific kinds of opacity that constitute the “hindrances to forming my Image” — not generic darkness but four named forms: sin, selfishness, worldliness, and human miseries. The implicit scriptural background is Ephesians 5:11 (expose the unfruitful works of darkness), Romans 13:12–14 (put on the armor of light, make no provision for the flesh), and Galatians 5:19–21 (works of the flesh as opposed to fruits of the Spirit).

STAGE TWO SYNTHESIS
The entry presents the light-theology at its most structurally precise: the five dimensions of the soul’s activity (thought, word, desire, works, steps) as the composite out of which a sun is formed, and the sun as the medium in which Christ’s Image forms without obstacle. Both Stage One and Hogan converge on Romans 8:29 (Image-conformity as the predestined purpose), Psalm 104:2 (God-as-light-garment as the analogical ground), and the New Testament walk-in-the-light cluster (1 Peter 2:9, 1 John 1:7, Colossians 1:12, 1 Thessalonians 5:5, Ephesians 5:8). Stage One adds the IDR-1 tradition (Wisdom 7:26 as the spotless-mirror anchor, Genesis 1:26–27 as the imago Dei ground) and the obstacle-free-entrance theology (John 14:23, Revelation 21:23, Isaiah 60:19–20). Hogan’s four-darkness diagnostic names the specific opacities that the composite-light process displaces. The load-bearing finding is the medium-for-Image-formation claim: the Image does not form in partial light — it requires the sun, which is the five-dimensional totality of the soul’s activity all consecrated to God.
Cross-Entry Synthesis
Volume 6 — January 14, 1906 “Jesus forms His Image in the light that comes out of the soul.”
The Five-Dimensional Light: Anatomy of Total Illumination
The entry opens with a diagnostic of inadequacy — “I am not content when only glimmers of light come out of the soul” — and immediately specifies what full contentment requires: five dimensions of the soul’s activity must each become light. Thought, word, desire, works, steps are not an exhaustive taxonomy but a structural coverage: the inward (thought, desire), the expressive (word), the active (works), and the directional (steps) — the complete range of the soul’s interior and exterior operation. No domain of activity is exempted from the light-requirement.
The New Testament walk-in-the-light cluster (1 Peter 2:9; 1 John 1:7; Colossians 1:12; 1 Thessalonians 5:5; Ephesians 5:8) — all cited by Hogan — establishes the tradition within which the entry stands. What the entry adds is precision: these texts call to light but do not specify which dimensions of the soul’s activity must be illuminated; January 14 enumerates them. Hogan’s observation is exact: “we didn’t understand just reading the text of the New Testament the level that we were required to walk in.” The entry names the level.
The progressive dimension is Proverbs 4:18’s dawn-to-full-day: individual glimmers growing into a sun. 2 Corinthians 3:18’s transformation “from one degree of glory to another” names the same progression in its Image-formation register. The soul is not asked to be a sun from the start but to bring each dimension into the light, allowing them to unite — and the union, not any individual dimension alone, forms the sun.
The Sun as Medium: The IDR-1 Connection
The entry’s most theologically dense claim is the function assigned to the sun: “in this sun my whole Image may be formed.” The Image is not formed in the soul’s interior directly — not in the will, the intellect, or the affections in isolation — but in the sun that the composite of all dimensions produces. The medium must be the right kind of medium for the Image to form without distortion.
Wisdom 7:26 is the governing anchor for this claim — the “spotless mirror of the working of God” that reflects without distortion. Stage One identifies this as IDR-1’s ruling anchor, and January 14 supplies the mechanism IDR-1 required: the spotless mirror is not merely the restored soul but the all-light soul, the one in whom every dimension has been illuminated so that no opacity remains to introduce distortion. The IDR-1 arc has traced: original image (Genesis 1:26–27), disfigurement (history), restoration process (volume passim), terminus (May 25 — Christ sees himself reflected without distortion). January 14 supplies the medium-theory: the terminus is reached when the composite sun is formed, because only the sun provides the undistorted medium.
Romans 8:29 (Hogan’s citation) — “predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son” — names the predestined end; Wisdom 7:26 names the medium’s requirement; the five-dimension enumeration names the process. The three together constitute a complete theory of Image-formation that IDR-1 has been approaching across the volume.
Colossians 3:10’s “renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator” and Ephesians 4:22–24’s “put on the new self, created after the likeness of God” supply the Pauline process-language. Each of the five dimensions corresponds to a dimension of the old self displaced and the new self installed: the old thought-pattern displaced by light-thought, the old word displaced by light-word, and so on. “Everything for Me” is the single intentional criterion that triggers each dimension’s illumination — UPI-1’s origin-principle applied comprehensively.
The Obstacle-Free Entrance: Physics of Spiritual Transparency
The solar-light analogy is the entry’s most structurally original image. Natural solar light is entered without resistance — not because of any property of the one entering but because of the medium’s character: light interpenetrates everything that does not block it. The soul who has become all light is the same kind of medium: God finds no obstacle in her not because he forces his way in but because the sun she has become offers him the same unobstructed entrance that natural light offers.
John 14:23’s “we will come to him and make our home with him” is the loving-indwelling promise whose obstacle-theory the entry specifies: the obstacle is not God’s reluctance but the soul’s opacity. When the soul is all light, the divine home-making occurs because the condition for it has been fully met. Revelation 21:23’s eschatological city transparent to God’s glory — “the glory of God gives it light” — is the terminal form: the New Jerusalem needs no external sun because it has no opacity to illuminate from outside. The soul who has become all light anticipates this eschatological condition on earth.
The “hindrances to forming my Image” that partial illumination leaves are the shadows and opacities that Hogan names: sin, selfishness, worldliness, human miseries. Each constitutes a domain of the soul’s activity that remains in the old-self register rather than the new-self register. Each corresponds to one or more of the five dimensions: selfish thought, worldly word, misery-driven desire, sin-shaped works, directionless steps. The entry’s five-dimension enumeration is simultaneously the diagnostic checklist and the formation program.
Position in the Volume’s Formation Arc and IDR-1 Resolution
The January entries — January 6 (prayer as music, “another God”) and January 14 (composite-light sun as medium for Image-formation) — together constitute the volume’s final doctrinal summit before the closing entry. January 6 named what the formation arc produces acoustically (divine-register prayer); January 14 names what it produces optically (the sun in which Christ’s Image forms). Both are expressions of the same underlying state — the soul fully conformed to the divine will, entirely consecrated, every dimension transformed.
The light-theology arc for the volume: the disclosure of the music-mechanism (February and March 1904, VSC-1/early formation arc); the VSC-1 music-void mechanism (October 27, 1904); January 6’s prayer-as-music; January 14’s composite-light-as-sun. The arc moves from the void-and-music-mechanism to the full-sun Image-formation medium. LT-1 (light theology, opening November 16, 1903, stable since then) receives its most developed form at the volume’s close: not merely light as a general spiritual quality but a five-dimensional composite that produces the specific medium for the Image’s formation.
The entry also names the precondition for everything the volume’s formation arc has taught: “when she does everything — everything for Me; then does she become all light.” The “everything for Me” criterion is UPI-1 applied comprehensively. The connection between UPI-1 (origin-principle) and IDR-1 (Image-restoration) is now explicit: the Image forms in the all-light soul, and the all-light soul is the one who does everything for God. Origin-purity (UPI-1) is the mechanism of Image-formation (IDR-1).
Synthesis Conclusion
The dominant biblical imagination is the New Testament light-theology cluster (1 Peter 2:9; 1 John 1:7; Ephesians 5:8; Colossians 1:12; 1 Thessalonians 5:5) governed by Romans 8:29 (Image-conformity as predestined purpose) and Wisdom 7:26 (spotless mirror as the IDR-1 anchor for the obstacle-free Image-medium). The scriptural traditions most load-bearing are: Romans 8:29 (the predestined Image-conformity the sun-formation actualizes), Wisdom 7:26 (the spotless-mirror medium that the all-light soul constitutes), and 2 Corinthians 3:18 (transformation from glory to glory as the progressive form of the composite-light process). The three most theologically significant findings are: first, the medium-theory for IDR-1’s terminus — the Image forms in the sun (the five-dimensional composite) rather than in any single dimension, supplying the mechanism by which IDR-1’s restoration arc reaches its spotless-mirror state; second, the UPI-1 / IDR-1 connection — “everything for Me” is the criterion for becoming all light, which means origin-purity (UPI-1) is structurally the condition for Image-formation (IDR-1); and third, the obstacle-free entrance as the physics of spiritual transparency — the all-light soul offers God the same unobstructed indwelling that natural solar light offers to whatever enters it, which is the final articulation of the volume’s sustained teaching on how divine-will conformity transforms the soul’s interior into a medium adequate to the divine.
Observation Notes
See this note in volume context →
06-1906-01-14
IDR-1 — medium-theory disclosed (mechanism of the terminus): January 14 supplies the medium-theory underlying IDR-1’s restoration arc: the Image forms in the composite-light sun (thought + word + desire + works + steps united), not in any single dimension in isolation. The spotless mirror (Wisdom 7:26) that the May 25 terminus described is now shown to be the all-light soul whose every dimension has been illuminated. IDR-1’s arc now has its mechanism: original image (Genesis 1:26–27) → disfigurement → restoration → the all-light composite as medium → terminus (Christ sees himself reflected without distortion). Governing anchors: Wisdom 7:26; Romans 8:29; 2 Corinthians 3:18.
UPI-1 / IDR-1 convergence — structural connection: “When she does everything — everything for Me; then does she become all light” makes UPI-1 (origin-principle: everything done for God) the structural precondition for IDR-1’s terminus. Origin-purity is the mechanism of Image-formation: the soul whose every act originates in God does everything for God, which illuminates every dimension, which forms the sun, which is the medium for the Image. The UPI-1 / IDR-1 connection is now explicit at the volume’s close.
LT-1 — most developed form in the volume: Light theology (LT-1, opened November 16, 1903, stable since) receives its most fully articulated form: the five-dimensional composite (thought, word, desire, works, steps) as the anatomy of total illumination, and the sun as the specific medium for Image-formation. LT-1 is now at its highest doctrinal development in the volume. Governing anchors: Psalm 104:2; Ephesians 5:8; 1 John 1:7; Romans 8:29.
