01-31 Biblical Resonance Analysis
STAGE ONE — INDEPENDENT BIBLICAL IDENTIFICATION
This entry has four conceptual movements: the all-night wrestling with the Lord (Jacob parallel); the New Year bridal gifts — milk, kiss, and ring; the prophetic sign about the Italy-Africa war; and the four-month fulfillment. Four movements are identifiable.
The All-Night Wrestling: Obedience as the Frame for Resistance
I spent one entire night clashing with the Lord. When He would come, I would say to Him: ‘My dear Jesus, have patience, do not come, for obedience does not permit that You make me share in your sufferings.’ Up until the morning, I won – I felt I was inside myself and free of sufferings when, in one instant, the Lord came and drew me so much to Himself that I could not resist Him.
Genesis 32:24–28 — “And Jacob was left alone. And a man wrestled with him until the breaking of the day… Then he said, ‘Let me go, for the day has broken.’ But Jacob said, ‘I will not let you go unless you bless me.‘” The all-night wrestling with the Lord — “I spent one entire night clashing with the Lord… up until the morning, I won” — corresponds structurally to Jacob’s all-night wrestling: the creature holds on until daybreak, wins in the sense of persistence, and is ultimately drawn into the blessing that the struggle was always preparing. Hogan explicitly names this parallel. Typological.
Romans 9:19 — “You will say then to me, “Why does he still find fault? For who withstands his will?”” “In one instant, the Lord came and drew me so much to Himself that I could not resist Him” — the rhetorical question of Romans 9:19, confirmed again from Entries 023 and 024. The creature’s resistance cannot ultimately prevail against divine attraction. Direct doctrinal parallel.
Luke 22:44 — “Being in agony, he prayed more earnestly. His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down on the ground.” The all-night clashing corresponds structurally to Gethsemane: the night of agonized resistance before the surrender to the divine will at dawn. Christological/Trinitarian.
The New Year Bridal Gifts: Milk, Kiss, and Ring
He drew His most pure lips to mine and poured a most sweet milk; He kissed me, He took a ring from within His side and said to me: “Today I want to show you the ring I have prepared for you, for when I espouse you.”
Song of Songs 1:2 — “Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth; for your love is better than wine.” The divine kiss — “He drew His most pure lips to mine” — is the Song of Songs’ opening cry enacted literally: the Bride’s longing for the Bridegroom’s kiss is here fulfilled in the New Year gift. Affective/meditative.
Song of Songs 3:4 — “I had scarcely passed from them, when I found him whom my soul loves. I held him, and would not let him go, until I had brought him into my mother’s house, into the room of her who conceived me.” The clutching that follows the surrender — “I found myself together with Him, but so clasped to Him, that as much opposition as I made, I could not detach myself from Jesus” — corresponds to the Bride’s clinging to the Beloved once found. Affective/meditative.
Song of Songs 2:5 — “Strengthen me with raisins, refresh me with apples; for I am faint with love.” “I felt languor; and I felt such satiety and sweetness” — the milk producing languor corresponds to the Bride’s lovesick satiety. Hogan identifies this as “Song of Songs chapter 3, around verse 4” but then also cites 2:5 (“feed me with apples because I am sick with love”). The languor after the milk-feeding is the Bride’s experience of being overwhelmed by the Beloved’s nourishment. Affective/meditative.
Revelation 19:7–9 — “Let’s rejoice and be exceedingly glad, and let’s give the glory to him. For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his wife has made herself ready.” … ‘Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb.’”” The ring shown from within the divine side — “the ring I have prepared for you, for when I espouse you” — is the pre-bridal gift corresponding to the marriage of the Lamb. The ring is the pledge of the mystical marriage promised in Entry 026. Direct doctrinal parallel.
Hosea 2:19–20 — “I will betroth you to me forever. Yes, I will betroth you to me in righteousness, in justice, in loving kindness, and in compassion. I will even betroth you to me in faithfulness; and you shall know the LORD.” The ring from the divine side as the betrothal-pledge corresponds to the Hosean betrothal-covenant: the divine initiative in the espousal, confirmed with gifts from the divine own being. Direct doctrinal parallel.
John 6:35 — “Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will not be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” The milk producing such satiety that natural food cannot be received — “I felt so full that the food would not go down” — corresponds to Christ’s promise: the one who comes to him “shall not hunger.” The Eucharistic satiety is enacted literally in the physical consequence of the milk. Hogan cites Jn 6:35 for Christ’s joking “What I gave you was not enough? You are not content yet?” Direct doctrinal parallel.
1 Corinthians 13:12 — “For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I will know fully, even as I was also fully known.” The ring shown but not yet given — “today I want to show you the ring I have prepared for you, for when I espouse you” — corresponds to the partial/complete knowledge distinction: the ring is seen now but given at the mystical marriage that is still to come. Affective/meditative.
The Prophetic Sign: Tell the Confessor of the Italy-Africa War
“Tell the confessor that it is my Will that you continue to stay in bed, and as a sign that it is I, tell him that there is a war between Italy and Africa, and if he gives you the obedience to continue to suffer, I will not do anything on either side – they will reconcile.”
Amos 3:7 — “Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, unless he reveals his secret to his servants the prophets.” The prophetic sign given to authenticate the divine communication to the confessor corresponds to the Amos principle: the Lord reveals his purposes to the prophets before acting. Luisa is placed within the prophetic tradition — the sign is not for her benefit but for the confessor’s discernment. Direct doctrinal parallel.
1 Kings 18:36–37 — “At the time of the evening offering, Elijah the prophet came near and said, “LORD, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant, and that I have done all these things at your word. Hear me, LORD, hear me, that this people may know that you, LORD, are God, and that you have turned their heart back again.”” The prophetic sign as the instrument for persuading those in authority corresponds to Elijah’s prayer for the authenticating sign: the purpose is not demonstration for its own sake but the conversion of the witness (the confessor, like the people of Israel). Typological.
Deuteronomy 18:21–22 — “You may say in your heart, “How shall we know the word which the LORD has not spoken?” When a prophet speaks in the LORD’s name, if the thing doesn’t follow, nor happen, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously. You shall not be afraid of him.” The criterion for true prophecy — what the Lord speaks comes to pass — is exactly the structure of the Italy-Africa sign: the prophecy’s fulfillment four months later is the Deuteronomic criterion for authenticating the divine origin of the communication. Direct doctrinal parallel.
The Four-Month Fulfillment: The Confessor Persuaded
One day, after about four months, the confessor came and told me that news had arrived about the war between Africa and Italy, and that without causing any damage to each other, they had reconciled. So the confessor was persuaded, and he let me stay there in peace.
Luke 1:45 — “Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of the things which have been spoken to her from the Lord!”” The fulfilled prophecy corresponds to Mary’s blessing: “blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment.” Luisa’s belief produced the patience through the four-month wait; the confessor’s eventual persuasion is the fulfillment that confirms the belief. Typological.
2 Peter 1:19–21 — “And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention… For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” The fulfilled prophecy more fully confirming the divine origin corresponds to Peter’s epistemological principle: the fulfilled word increases confidence in its divine source. Direct doctrinal parallel.
STAGE TWO — COMPARISON WITH HOGAN’S COMMENTARY
CORRESPONDENCES
Genesis 32:24–28 / Jacob and the angel: Hogan explicitly names “Jacob and the angel” as the structural parallel for the all-night wrestling. Stage One independently identified the same passage. Strong correspondence.
Romans 9:19 / Who can resist his will: Hogan’s statement — “in other words nobody can resist God” — for the moment when the Lord drew Luisa despite all resistance corresponds to Stage One’s Rom 9:19 identification. Direct correspondence.
Song of Songs 2:5 / I am sick with love — feed me: Hogan cites “Song of Songs chapter 3 verse 4” and then describes the content of Song 2:5 (“feed me with apples because I am sick with love”). Stage One identified Song 2:5 for the languor. Note on Hogan’s citation: Hogan gives “chapter 3, around verse 4” but then quotes the sick-with-love content which is Song 2:5. Song of Songs 3:4 reads “Scarcely had I passed them when I found him whom my soul loves.” The BRA notes the discrepancy and uses Song 2:5 for the languor content, but also retains Song 3:4 (Stage One) for the clutching that follows the surrender. Both are relevant. Partial citation correction noted per protocol.
John 6:35 / I am the bread of life — you shall not hunger: Hogan cites “John 6:35” for Christ’s joking “What I gave you was not enough? You are not content yet?” Stage One independently identified the same passage. Direct correspondence.
Amos 3:7 / The Lord reveals to his prophets: Hogan identifies the authenticating-sign structure as prophetic — “this is a true prophecy” — for the Italy-Africa disclosure. Stage One independently identified Amos 3:7 for the same movement. Direct correspondence.
DEVIATIONS
Song of Songs 3:4 vs. Song of Songs 2:5: Hogan cites “Song of Songs chapter 3, around verse 4” but describes content corresponding to Song 2:5. Both are applicable: Song 3:4 (the clutching to the Beloved once found) applies to “I could not detach myself from Jesus”; Song 2:5 (sick with love, feed me with apples) applies to “I felt languor.” The BRA retains both with the partial correction noted.
ADDITIONS — MINE
Stage One identified the following not addressed by Hogan:
- Song of Songs 1:2 (let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth) for the divine kiss
- Revelation 19:7–9 (the marriage of the Lamb; blessed are those invited) for the ring-as-betrothal-pledge
- Hosea 2:19–20 (I will betroth you to me forever) for the divine betrothal initiative
- 1 Corinthians 13:12 (now we see in a mirror dimly; then face to face) for the ring shown but not yet given
- Luke 22:44 (Christ praying more earnestly in Gethsemane) for the all-night wrestling structure
- 1 Kings 18:36–37 (Elijah’s prayer for the authenticating sign) for the prophetic-sign structure
- Deuteronomy 18:21–22 (the criterion for true prophecy — fulfilled word) for the Italy-Africa fulfillment
- Luke 1:45 (blessed is she who believed there would be fulfillment) for the fulfilled prophecy
- 2 Peter 1:19–21 (the prophetic word more fully confirmed by fulfillment) for the same
ADDITIONS — HERS
The milk as divine substance / mother-and-child image (doctrinal): Hogan’s identification — “a mother feeds the child with milk, she’s giving her own substance; and you’ve just read that Luisa said ‘I was filled with so much love’; his substance is his love” — is the most theologically significant addition in the commentary. The milk = divine substance = love equation, derived from the mother-feeding analogy, places the milk-feeding within the sacramental-theology of divine self-communication: the divine gives of his own substance (love) to feed the soul’s capacity for love. The implicit scriptural background is 1 Pet 2:2 (“like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation”) and 1 Cor 3:2 (Paul’s milk-for-infants metaphor).
The liqueur as the bitter correlate to the milk (contextual): Hogan identifies that Luisa also receives “a liqueur” which is bitter — the counterpart to the sweet milk. This is a forward bridge: both substances will recur and their significance will emerge from the pattern. The implicit scriptural background is the bitter waters of Marah (Exod 15:23–25) sweetened by the divine, and the cup of suffering that must be drunk before joy.
Evidential function of the food-coming-back-with-milk (contextual): Hogan’s identification — “for the first time the priest has evidence that when she says she received milk from the Lord, it is actually real” — is the most ecclesially significant addition. The physical evidence (food vomited with the milk) provides empirical confirmation for the confessor. This advances the ecclesial-involvement arc established in Entry 023: the Lord is not only requiring priestly presence but providing empirical evidence for the confessor’s discernment.
VIP / SPECIAL DESIGNATIONS
Hogan applies no formal VIP designation. Her notation — “this is a true prophecy; write it down just beside that” — is the closest she comes to elevating specific content, applied specifically to the Italy-Africa prophetic sign and its fulfillment.
STAGE TWO SYNTHESIS
This entry achieves strong convergence: Gen 32:24–28 (Jacob-wrestling), Rom 9:19 (cannot resist), Song 2:5 / 3:4 (partial correction noted), Jn 6:35 (bread of life), and Amos 3:7 (Lord reveals to prophets) — five confirmed citations across all major movements.
Stage One’s major additions: the full bridal-gift cluster (Song 1:2; Rev 19:7–9; Hos 2:19–20), the prophetic-authentication tradition (1 Kgs 18:36–37; Deut 18:21–22; 2 Pet 1:19–21), and Lk 22:44 (Gethsemane as structural parallel to the all-night wrestling). Hogan’s major additions: the milk-as-divine-substance identification, the liqueur forward bridge, and the evidential function of the physical confirmation.
The dominant biblical imagination: the Jacob-wrestling typology for the all-night struggle; the Song of Songs bridal-gift tradition for the New Year graces; and the prophetic-authentication tradition (Amos, Elijah, Deuteronomy) for the Italy-Africa sign.
Cross-Entry Synthesis
The All-Night Wrestling: Obedience Holds, the Lord Wins
I spent one entire night clashing with the Lord… Up until the morning, I won – I felt I was inside myself and free of sufferings when, in one instant, the Lord came and drew me so much to Himself that I could not resist Him.
Both streams converge on Gen 32:24–28 (Jacob and the angel) and Rom 9:19 (who can resist his will). Hogan names Jacob explicitly; Stage One confirms both passages independently.
The Jacob parallel is the entry’s most resonant typological anchor. Genesis 32 narrates a wrestling that lasts “until the breaking of the day” — Jacob holds on, prevails in the sense of persistence, and receives a blessing. In Entry 031 the structure is inverted: Luisa holds on all night and “wins” in the sense of maintaining her free state, but at dawn (or its equivalent) the Lord comes and draws her irresistibly. The Jacob narrative ends with Jacob’s blessing and permanent limping — the sign of the divine encounter on the body. Luisa’s narrative ends with the bridal gifts and the involuntary return to suffering — the sign of the divine encounter on the body. Both encounters leave a permanent mark.
Lk 22:44 (Stage One) adds the Gethsemane parallel: the all-night clashing with the Lord before the dawn-surrender corresponds to Christ’s agony in the garden before the “not my will but thine.” Luisa’s resistance is not disobedience but the necessary form through which the full surrender is arrived at — as Christ’s Gethsemane anguish was not disobedience but the human form of the divine Son’s complete yes.
The Lord’s response — “when it is because of obedience I do not get offended” — is the obedience-principle of Entry 023 (“it is my usual way to manifest my works through the priests”) confirmed from the other side: the resistance grounded in obedience to the confessor is not resistance to God but cooperation with the divine method.
The New Year Bridal Gifts: Milk, Kiss, Ring
He drew His most pure lips to mine and poured a most sweet milk; He kissed me, He took a ring from within His side and said to me: “Today I want to show you the ring I have prepared for you, for when I espouse you.”
Both streams converge on Song 2:5 (sick with love, feed me) and Jn 6:35 (bread of life, you shall not hunger) for the milk-satiety movement. Stage One adds Song 1:2 (let him kiss me), Song 3:4 (I clutched him), Rev 19:7–9 (the marriage of the Lamb), and Hos 2:19–20 (I will betroth you to me forever).
Song 1:2 is the most precise scriptural correspondent for “He drew His most pure lips to mine”: the Song’s opening cry — “let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth” — is enacted literally as the New Year gift. The movement from the cry (the Bride’s longing) to the fulfillment (the divine kiss bestowed) is the entry’s bridal-mystical completion.
The ring from within the divine side is the entry’s most distinctive image. “He took a ring from within his side” — the location corresponds to Jn 19:34 (blood and water from the opened side) and to the general tradition of the divine Heart as the source of the mystical gifts. The ring is drawn from the same wound from which the Eucharist flows. Hos 2:19–20 provides the betrothal-covenant language: “I will betroth you to me forever… in steadfast love and in mercy… in faithfulness.” The ring is the pledge of this covenant.
Hogan’s milk-as-divine-substance identification — “a mother feeds the child with milk, she’s giving her own substance; his substance is his love” — is the theological key to the milk-feeding. The milk is not a symbolic gesture but the actual communication of divine love-substance to the soul: what the mother gives of herself in nursing, Christ gives of himself in the milk. The physical consequence (food vomited with the milk visible) is the empirical sign: the divine substance has genuinely entered and filled the body, not merely the soul.
The ring shown but not yet given — “the ring I have prepared for you, for when I espouse you” — corresponds to 1 Cor 13:12 (now we see in a mirror dimly; then face to face). The mystical marriage is still to come; the ring’s showing is the betrothal-gift, not the wedding-gift. The entry’s bridal content is proleptic: the marriage is promised and pledged, not yet consummated.
RP-2 (Libbavtini) culmination: The New Year bridal gifts — kiss, milk, ring — are RP-2’s most concretely realized expression in Volume 1. The wounding glance of Song 4:9, which has operated throughout the volume through gazes and interior exchanges, here becomes the full bridal-gift sequence: the Bridegroom gives the Bride the kiss she asked for in Song 1:2, feeds her the milk that produces the lovesick satiety of Song 2:5, and shows her the ring of the coming espousal. RP-2 reaches its Volume 1 summit.
The Prophetic Sign and Its Fulfillment
“Tell the confessor that it is my Will that you continue to stay in bed, and as a sign that it is I, tell him that there is a war between Italy and Africa, and if he gives you the obedience to continue to suffer, I will not do anything on either side – they will reconcile.”… One day, after about four months, the confessor came and told me that news had arrived… and that without causing any damage to each other, they had reconciled.
Both streams converge on Amos 3:7 (the Lord reveals to his prophets before acting) as the primary anchor. Hogan identifies it as “a true prophecy”; Stage One confirms independently.
Stage One adds 1 Kgs 18:36–37 (Elijah’s prayer for the authenticating sign), Deut 18:21–22 (fulfilled word as the criterion for true prophecy), Lk 1:45 (blessed is she who believed there would be fulfillment), and 2 Pet 1:19–21 (the prophetic word more fully confirmed by its fulfillment). Together these passages establish the complete theological architecture of the prophetic-authentication structure.
The structural logic is important: the prophetic sign is not given for Luisa’s confirmation (she already believes) but for the confessor’s discernment. This corresponds to the broader ecclesial-involvement strategy of Entry 023 (“it is my usual way to manifest my works through the priests”): the Lord provides evidence calibrated to the confessor’s capacity for belief. The Italy-Africa information is something Luisa could not have known; its fulfillment is something the confessor can verify. The prophecy bridges the gap between Luisa’s direct divine experience and the confessor’s need for external confirmation.
The Deut 18:21–22 criterion — “if the word does not come to pass, that is a word that the Lord has not spoken” — is satisfied precisely: the word comes to pass, four months later, without damage on either side. The Deuteronomic criterion operates as the implicit standard by which the confessor evaluates the prophecy’s fulfillment: “since the sign was accurate, the confessor was persuaded.”
Ecclesial-involvement arc advance: Entry 031’s prophetic sign and fulfillment is the most concrete advance in the ecclesial-involvement arc since Entry 023’s “it is my usual way to manifest my works through the priests.” The confessor who was told to give obedience based on the sign (“we’ll see if nothing happens”) is now “persuaded and lets her stay there in peace.” The Lord has used a verifiable prophecy to accomplish what direct divine experience alone could not achieve with the confessor’s limited frame of reference.
Synthesis Conclusion
Dominant biblical imagination: The governing traditions are the Jacob-wrestling typology (Gen 32:24–28) for the all-night struggle; the Song of Songs bridal-gift tradition (Song 1:2; 2:5; 3:4) for the New Year graces; the prophetic-authentication tradition (Amos 3:7; Deut 18:21–22; 1 Kgs 18:36–37) for the Italy-Africa sign; and the betrothal-covenant tradition (Hos 2:19–20; Rev 19:7–9) for the ring-showing.
Load-bearing correspondences:
-
Genesis 32:24–28 / Luke 22:44 — The Jacob-and-angel / Gethsemane parallel for the all-night wrestling. Both streams converge on Gen 32:24–28. Stage One adds Lk 22:44. Together they establish that the all-night clashing is not spiritual failure but the necessary creaturely form of arriving at the full yes: Jacob’s blessing, Christ’s completion of the yes, and Luisa’s New Year gifts all come after the night of wrestling, not despite it.
-
Song of Songs 1:2 / Song 2:5 / Hosea 2:19–20 / Revelation 19:7–9 — The bridal-gift cluster and its scriptural depth. Stage One identifies all four. Together they establish the New Year bridal sequence as scripturally grounded in the entire prophetic-bridal tradition: the kiss of Song 1:2, the lovesick satiety of Song 2:5, the divine betrothal initiative of Hosea 2, and the eschatological marriage of Revelation 19. The ring shown is the pledge of what all these passages anticipate.
-
Amos 3:7 / Deuteronomy 18:21–22 / 2 Peter 1:19–21 — The prophetic sign and the criterion for its authentication. Both streams converge on Amos 3:7. Stage One adds Deut 18:21–22 and 2 Pet 1:19–21. Together they establish that the Italy-Africa prophecy functions precisely according to the biblical model of prophetic authentication: the Lord reveals to the prophet, the criterion is fulfillment, the fulfillment more fully confirms the divine origin. The confessor’s persuasion is the response the biblical model expects.
No VIP designation was applied by Hogan. Her “this is a true prophecy — write it down” is the closest informal elevation.
Observation Note
(a) RP-2 (Libbavtini) reaches its Volume 1 summit in Entry 031: The New Year bridal gifts — kiss, milk, ring — are the fullest realization of RP-2 in the entire volume. The wounding glance of Song 4:9 that has operated throughout now reaches its bridal-gift completion: Song 1:2 (the kiss), Song 2:5 (the lovesick satiety), Rev 19:7–9 (the betrothal pledge). Entry 031 is the primary Volume 1 reference point for RP-2’s culmination.
(b) Milk as divine substance confirmed — forward tracking: Hogan’s milk-as-divine-substance identification establishes the milk-liqueur pair as a recurring mystical phenomenon to be tracked. The milk = divine love-substance; the liqueur = its bitter counterpart. Both will recur in subsequent entries; their combined significance should be observed for the pattern that emerges.
(c) Prophetic fulfillment as the ecclesial-involvement mechanism: Entry 031 is the first instance of a verifiable fulfilled prophecy used to advance the ecclesial-involvement arc. The Lord gave the confessor a falsifiable claim (the Italy-Africa reconciliation) and waited four months for its fulfillment. This is the most concrete advance in the confessor’s discernment process in the volume. Hogan identifies it as “a true prophecy” — a formal designation in the tradition of prophetic discernment.
(d) Citation correction — Song 3:4 vs. Song 2:5: Hogan cites “Song of Songs chapter 3, around verse 4” but describes content corresponding to Song 2:5 (“feed me with apples because I am sick with love”). Both passages are relevant; Song 3:4 applies to the clutching; Song 2:5 applies to the lovesick satiety. The partial correction is noted per protocol.
Observation Notes
See this note in volume context →
01-31
On RP-2’s Volume 1 summit: The New Year bridal gifts are RP-2’s most concretely realized expression — kiss, milk, ring, all drawn directly from the Song of Songs tradition. The wounding glance of Song 4:9 that initiated the dynamic in earlier entries has arrived at the full bridal-gift sequence.
On the milk-as-divine-substance identification: Hogan’s live insight — “a mother feeds the child with milk, giving her own substance; his substance is his love” — is one of the few instances in Volume 1 where the commentary generates a genuine theological insight in real time rather than applying prior knowledge. The milk-liqueur pair should be tracked as a recurring mystical phenomenon.
On the prophetic fulfillment as ecclesial mechanism: Entry 031 establishes the pattern: when direct divine experience fails to persuade the confessor, the Lord provides a verifiable prophecy. The four-month wait and the confirmed reconciliation are the divine’s method of building the confessor’s trust incrementally. This is the ecclesial-involvement arc’s most concrete advance since Entry 023.
